Instagram Removing Shop Tab Putting More Focus on Reels

As Instagram continue to push it’s short-form video feature ‘Reels’ they have made a redesign to their popular app that snuffs our the shopping tab in a shakeup that shifts the social media platform in 2023.

According to Engadget, Instagram will be axing the Shop tab in February and will being more the Create button back to the cent of the bottom navigation bar, but, the shopping will still exist in your feed.

This is a clear move to push more content creation, specifically for Reels, which has been on the short end of the short form video battle between the likes of ByteDance’s TikTok, and YouTube’s Shorts.

With the recent boom of shopping streams and live shopping streams, it will be interesting to see if Instagram pivots in 2023.
